Middle Years Programme
Middle school is a transformative stage in a student’s life — a time when learners develop intellectually, emotionally, socially, and morally. At AGS, the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) supports this growth by combining academic rigor with creativity, personal development, and global awareness.
Building on the strong foundation of the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the MYP provides a smooth transition from primary to middle school. In the PYP, students learn through transdisciplinary units of inquiry that connect subjects around real-world themes and concepts. In the MYP, this evolves into a more interdisciplinary approach, where students deepen subject-specific knowledge while making meaningful connections across disciplines. This progression encourages students to think critically, transfer understanding across contexts, and apply learning to authentic situations.
The MYP curriculum includes:

- Physical & Health Education
- Language Acquisition (Arabic, French, or Spanish)
- Digital Design & Innovation
At the heart of the programme are the Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills and the IB Learner Profile, which are embedded across all subjects and experiences. Students continuously develop communication, collaboration, research, critical thinking, self-management, and reflection skills that help them become independent, confident, and lifelong learners. At the same time, they grow as inquirers, thinkers, communicators, principled individuals, and caring for global citizens.
A key component of the MYP is Service as Action, which encourages students to connect classroom learning with meaningful community engagement. Through leadership opportunities, environmental initiatives, awareness campaigns, and service projects, students learn empathy, responsibility, and the value of contributing positively to society. These experiences help prepare students for the Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) component of the IB Diploma Programme.
In Grade 10, every student completes the Personal Project — a significant independent inquiry that reflects their interests, passions, and learning journey. Students research, plan, create, and reflect on a project of their choice while developing advanced ATL skills such as time management, research, organization, communication, and critical thinking. The Personal Project serves as excellent preparation for the Extended Essay (EE) and Theory of Knowledge (TOK) in the Diploma Programme, as students learn to investigate ideas deeply, evaluate sources, reflect on learning, and think critically about knowledge and real-world issues.
The MYP serves as a vital bridge within the IB continuum, preserving the inquiry-driven philosophy of the PYP while preparing students for the academic challenge and independence required in the Diploma Programme (DP) and Career-related Programme (CP). By the end of Grade 10, students are equipped not only with strong academic foundations, but also with the resilience, confidence, and global perspective needed to thrive in future studies and beyond.
Beyond the classroom, students engage in community service, digital citizenship, sports, creative clubs, innovation competitions, and collaborative interdisciplinary learning experiences. Through these opportunities, they learn to challenge assumptions, appreciate diversity, and grow into thoughtful, responsible young adults ready to make a meaningful impact in the world.
